Big Brother Carries A GPS Enabled Phone

Phones equipped with GPS receivers are revolutionizing the cell phone industry. As we`ve all seen on our favorite crime dramas, if your cell phone is on, the police can locate you, sort of anyway! For those phones without a GPS receiver, the technology is not as accurate, in police drama terms you`re probably a goner if you`re locked in someone`s trunk. A cell is basically a two-way radio that pings signals off of land-based towers which are arranged into a network of cells to send and receive signals. Many things can get in the way of the police finding you, like your signal being lost in a copse of pine trees or by pinging into a mountainside.
On the other hand, if your new cell is equipped with a GPS receiver, odds of surviving are infinitely better. GPS technology does not rely on land based signal transfer. GPS relies on satellite signals which translates into much less that can get in the way of your cell signal, which means you get found faster! GPS means more accurate location tracking and the ability to give turn-by-turn directions upon request to the cell user.
Now, all of this technology is a wonderful thing if it is working for you, but let`s look at three scenarios where you might not be as happy about being found:
Evaluation of Traffic Data Obtained via GPS enabled Mobile Phones - A study was done using 100 vehicles on a 10 mile stretch of road that did the loop-de-loop continuously for 10 hours in the name of traffic studies. Each of the drivers was equipped with a GPS enabled Nokia N98. (They were definitely not talking on the cells however, that would be bad!) Anyway, these phones were left on and data was gathered by picking up geographical markers along the way. This allowed researchers to study the viability of gathering the location of cars in real time and simultaneously broadcasting traffic flows, other more costly and inefficient means of tracking traffic snafus.
The practical applications are wonderful. No more dangerous chopper-in-the sky reports on the morning news ... newscasters would just follow our cell pings and report back exactly where the traffic jams lie in real time. The down side? Officials were quick to point out that everyone`s privacy was guarded while doing these studies, but they felt it necessary to point this out.
GPS Phones Help Monitor Staff - Part of the American dream is that each one of us has the ability to start and grow our businesses, even if we are in head-to-head competition with businesses in our niche and 30 million times our size, right? Do you know how we can compete with GPS technology and not pay a mint? If you are a small package delivery company competing with the big boys, instead of installing GPS tracking devices on every package, you (generously) give each of your 30 drivers a GPS enabled cell. You then ask your in-house tech to build a custom application that uses the phones GPS technology to locate your drivers and therefore, your packages thus increasing your efficiency by cutting down on stops for fast food and fast women between package deliveries.
GPS People Tracking - At the end of 2005, it was mandated that each and every cell be configured to track the user within 100 meters when a 911 call was initiated. We are now, back to being locked in a trunk, clock ticking and our favorite police detectives hot on our trail. This time you pray that your cell is new enough to transmit what the police need to find you! What? You`re not sure if it is so equipped?
One final observation: If you do not mind everyone knowing where you are, keep your phone on. Locked in a trunk scenario, definitely turn your cell ON. Making inadvisable stops during work hours? Just turn off your phone, dude!
You can have access to articles about cell phone in portuguese language from page Cell_Phone
Roberto Sedycias works as IT consultant for Polomercantil

A Comparison of Dial-up and DSL

If you are considering signing up for DSL, you may wonder how DSL compares to dial-up. In this comparison, we will compare dial-up with ADSL, the most common DSL service that connects through a telephone line.
Dial-up and DSL both transmit information through your copper phone wires, but the process is different. A dial-up modem converts the analog signal on your phone line into digital information your computer can translate. Your ISP's modem must convert from digital to analog so it can travel on the phone lines. DSL uses the same lines, but bypasses the digital-analog-digital conversion. This means data can travel faster and the analog phone line can still be used while your connected to the Internet.
The total monthly price for dial-up is about $7-20 dollars a month, and installation is usually free. In some cases, the dial-up modem is not functioning or not automatically installed on the computer, so you would need to buy $20-40 modem. DSL's monthly rate can be anywhere from $15-100 a month, depending on the speed desired and the location of the consumer. More equipment is necessary for DSL and the installation is more complicated, so you can expect about $50 in start-up fees.
Dial-up exceeds DSL in transportability and availability. Dial-up service is available to any computer and any land line phone, which means you can take dial-up with you if you travel or move. Since DSL is strictly available to homes within a certain distance from the phone company's central office, rural areas can rarely be served. Many times several hundred feet determines whether or not DSL is available.
Furthermore, many phone companies do not allow other DSL companies to provide service on their customer's lines. This monopoly can increase the price of DSL, or keep DSL from being available without changing phone companies. When signing up for another company's DSL is possible, further complications can occur when activation and technical support is necessary.
A DSL set-up process takes at least several days and sometimes as much as two weeks, due to the changes to your phone line and the equipment shipping and set up time. Dial-up has a very simple to set up because the phone company does not need to be involved, and no major changes or expensive equipment is necessary. All you need is one phone cord and your existing phone jack and computer. Unless you have to wait for a setup CD to be mailed to you (which is often not necessary), you can be connected with half an hour of signing up. Of course, this means you can also change your connection set up or set up multiple connections with little effort.
DSL is a constant connection with high-speeds compatible with online games, downloads, and videos, but the price, availability, and setup procedure may be critically deterring factors. Dial-up is a simple, available, and cost effective option for many basic online uses, but will not keep up with some high-speed activities. Helping Your Online Business With an IP Changer

If you're looking for a hassle-free and profitable business opportunity, why not explore how you can make use of your computer and Internet connection? These days, the two make a winning combo. You don't have to spend as much as you need to if you were to put up a traditional store with a physical location. When you sell from the Internet, that's all you need to do - sell from the Internet.

You don't need to pay too much for utilities such as electric bills and even employees' salaries. You just basically need an Internet connection and a reliable way to ship your products to your customers. Indeed, with these basic components, you can launch your online business and make yourself rich without the trouble of conventional selling.

There is one aspect, however, that you must not take for granted as you begin your online venture. Because your business will be computer-based, it is essential that you keep your system as safe and secure as possible. If you don't, you could be losing sales and you won't even know it. In other words, be conscious about the threats that abound online. Hackers are the most dangerous of all and though you may think they only target established companies, you're totally wrong. Nobody is exempt from a hacker's agenda which is mainly comprised of gaining unauthorized access and data theft. Since you're selling from the Internet, it is given that you make use of an e-commerce functionality that has you dealing with very sensitive credit information from your customers. If you don't want to get in trouble with them, make sure your system is fully protected, meaning, impenetrable for those who may have ill intentions.

When it comes to online security, changing your IP address will always be the most effective precautionary measure you can take. That's because when you hide your IP, you practically erase all chance that hackers will victimize you because, in the first place, they won't even know you're online. You're using a fake IP, after all, not your real one. This is, of course, very important to consider especially as there is an actual research that proves how small and medium-sized online businesses have been suffering from setbacks mainly due to unsecured systems that arise from failure to practice even the most basic security precautions such as using a firewall and anti-virus software. Obviously, these business owners are not aware of the consequences of neglecting online security because of the misconception that hackers take a fancy only for big companies.

If you don't want to lose customers simply because you've been unable to secure their information, pay more attention to these security concerns. Remember that cyber crooks have only become more suave and sophisticated in their tricks to advance their selfish causes. Unless you, as an online seller, establish the right protective measures, you will fall into these online thieves' trap and before you know it, you can't get out. This is, of course, something you would never want to happen so make sure you don't give it reason to.

There are many ways to secure your system such as installing anti-virus software as well as anti-adware, anti-spyware and all security programs that block the entry of unwanted elements. Using a firewall is yet another basic way to protect your system, although it can sometimes restrict the full advantages offered by the Internet when the firewall starts blocking even legitimate content.

If you simply want a one-stop approach to protection, surf anonymously by getting an IP hider software to hide your IP address. When you do this, hackers won't find that link to you and it follows that you will be spared from their clouts.
